Unlocking $100 Million for SEQ Infrastructure

Unlocking $100 Million for SEQ Infrastructure

South East Queensland councils are set to benefit from a substantial financial boost aimed at enhancing critical infrastructure, disaster resilience, and community projects across the region.

Boosting SEQ’s Future

In an effort to support the rapid growth and development of South East Queensland (SEQ), the Miles Government has unlocked $100 million for local councils.

This funding, part of the second round of the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program (SEQCSP), is designed to fast-track investment in essential infrastructure and services.

Minister for Local Government, Meaghan Scanlon, announced the new program guidelines, emphasising the program’s role in fostering community growth and sustainability.

Targeted Investments

The $100 million allocation will be distributed among 12 SEQ councils, including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Redland City.

The focus will be on critical projects such as water supply systems, road maintenance, drainage, disaster resilience initiatives, and community buildings.

Additionally, councils can use up to 20% of their funds for infrastructure planning and 5% for capability development, ensuring they are well-prepared for future needs.

Supporting Jobs and Communities

Assistant Minister for Local Government, Ali King, highlighted the positive impact of the SEQCSP on local economies.

By funding essential projects, the program supports job creation and enhances liveability across the region.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to build more homes for Queenslanders, addressing the pressing need for housing and sustainable development.

A Collaborative Approach

With applications for proposed projects opening later this month, SEQ councils are encouraged to identify and submit plans that will yield the most significant benefits for their communities.

The collaborative approach aims to ensure the best local projects receive funding, promoting long-term economic growth and resilience.
