What’s happening?

Young Redlands athletes will join hundreds from across the nation at the 2025 Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships, set for April 26–27 at SA Athletics Stadium in Adelaide. The national meet also includes the Coles Little Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony.

Why it matters

This event is the pinnacle of the national Little Athletics calendar, offering Queensland’s top young competitors a chance to represent their state while developing essential life skills like teamwork, discipline and resilience. This year marks over 60 years of Little Athletics in Australia and the eighth year of support from major partner Coles.

Local Impact

Redlands athlete Leo Ramsay (Under 13 boys) will represent Queensland in the Championships. Fellow Queenslander Saxon Cranefield, who came second in the Under 13 boys 1500m at the recent Queensland State Titles, also joins the state team. Their selection reflects the strength of local clubs and centres in Redland City, including Capalaba, Redlands and Cleveland Little Athletics Centres, which continue to nurture elite junior talent.

By the Numbers

  • Over 500 athletes aged U13–U15 will compete for individual medals and team trophies.

  • This year’s event includes both able-bodied and Multi-Class athletes, ensuring inclusive competition.

  • Since its inception in 2009, over 90 former Little Athletes have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Zoom In

“This is the pinnacle event for Little Athletics,” said Myles Foreman, CEO of Coles Little Athletics Australia. “While athletes compete for individual rewards, their performances contribute towards the team awards and trophies. ALAC has a wonderful history dating back to 1973.”

Coles’ support continues with bananas and other fruit supplied to fuel athletes, officials, and volunteers. “Coles is delighted to help aspiring athletes compete on a national stage,” added Sally Fielke, Coles Group Corporate & Indigenous Affairs Officer.

Zoom Out

Little Athletics continues to build pathways into elite and professional sport. The Hall of Fame includes household names like Olympic hurdler Sally Pearson, Matildas footballer Alana Kennedy, and AFL champion Joel Selwood — all former Little Athletes. Inductees span not only elite sports but politics, entertainment, and media, highlighting the program’s wider value to Australian society.
