What’s happening?
Older Redlanders are experiencing lengthy delays in accessing home care, according to new Department of Health data released to the parliament. The figures show that many residents are waiting months before assessments or support packages begin.
Why it matters?
The delays affect basic daily needs such as meals, cleaning, showering, and home safety. These services are designed to help people age with dignity and independence.
Local Impact
Hundreds of older residents in the Redlands are currently in limbo, with families stepping in to fill the gap while formal support is delayed.

Federal Member for Bowman, Henry Pike, described the wait times as unacceptable.
“This is nothing short of disgraceful. Our seniors have spent their lives building this nation, working hard, raising families, paying taxes, volunteering in their communities and now when they need support, Labor is abandoning them.”
Mr Pike said that despite a Federal Government commitment of 83,000 new Home Care Packages from 1 July, none had yet been delivered in the Redlands or nationally.
“Labor made a promise to deliver new home care packages by July. It is now September, and not a single package has arrived. They say it’s coming soon, but so is Christmas. Redlanders deserve honesty and action, not excuses.”
He also disputed suggestions the sector is unprepared, stating, “Providers, peak bodies and advocacy groups have told Parliament that they are ready right now.”

The delays highlighted in the Redlands reflect wider challenges with the rollout of Home Care Packages. Mr Pike said every day of delay leaves families without the support they need.
“Every week another older Redlander goes without the support they need, help with meals, cleaning, showering, or simply staying safe at home. These are not luxuries. They are the basics that allow people to age with dignity and independence.”
What to look for next?
Mr Pike has pledged to continue pressing the government until packages are delivered and support reaches older Australians in the Redlands.
