Balancing Nature and Play: Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct

In a significant move, Redland City Council is poised to evaluate a transformative Revised Master Plan for the Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct.

Scheduled for discussion at the General Meeting on 15 November 2023, this visionary plan seeks to enhance community access to vital sporting facilities while addressing environmental concerns.

Navigating Environmental Challenges with Finesse

The Revised Master Plan, developed in response to the Australian Government’s designation of the project as a ‘Controlled Action’ under the EPBC Act, represents a conscious effort to balance development with environmental responsibility.

Expert advice prompted a reevaluation, resulting in a more compact 26-hectare footprint and preserving an impressive 80 percent of the site as a natural area.

Sporting Excellence and Community Impact

Despite the reduced size, the Revised Master Plan remains committed to the community’s sporting needs.

Featuring 13 touch football fields, three rugby league fields, two clubhouses, ample parking, and space earmarked for future recreation elements, it promises a dynamic hub for enthusiasts.

Prioritising touch football and rugby league will welcome around 4000 regular participants, heralding a new era for local sports.

Beyond the Fields: A Holistic Approach

Notably, the plan goes beyond sports, pledging investigation into alternative facilities for BMX and cycling.

This comprehensive approach underlines the Council’s commitment to diverse recreational pursuits, fostering a healthier and more active community.

A Pivotal Decision

The Revised Master Plan’s fate hangs in the balance as the Council prepares to make a crucial decision on 15 November 2023.

The endorsement will propel the plan towards final approvals under the EPBC Act, unlocking the door to Stage 1 construction. However, the Council retains the flexibility to revert to the original plan or reconsider the revised version, showcasing a commitment to thoughtful decision-making.
