Unlocking a Bright Future for the Arts in Redland City
In a triumphant moment reminiscent of getting the keys to your first home, the Redland Coast Art Society Inc. celebrated a significant milestone yesterday as they took possession of their new headquarters on Mt. Cotton Rd., Winter Memorial Park.
Revitalising History
A mere 12 months ago, this building faced an uncertain fate—tagged as old, grotty, and seemingly useless.
Fast forward to today, and it boasts a remarkable transformation: new carpet, repaired floors, upgraded air conditioning, a new ramp, enhanced security locks, and safer windows.
The metamorphosis was no easy feat; it required a collective effort and the invaluable support of fellow councillors who recognised the importance of preserving the city’s architectural heritage.
From Dilapidation to Inspiration
The real work is just beginning for the Art Society. Their upcoming working bees will see members scrubbing and painting walls, planting vibrant gardens, and crafting a distinctive sign befitting an art enclave.
This fresh, inviting space not only marks a new chapter for Society but also signals a cultural resurgence in Redland City.
Councillor Adelia Berridge’s Gratitude
Councillor Adelia Berridge, instrumental in the preservation battle, expressed gratitude for the collective effort that salvaged the building.
She emphasised the significance of communal support in securing the future of historical landmarks.
A Cultural Hub Unveiled
With a larger, improved space, the Art Society is poised to welcome a surge in memberships and expand their offerings, including an increased array of classes and art shows.
The ripple effect of this achievement promises a vibrant cultural landscape for Redland City in 2024.
As the Society opens its doors to the community, it also extends an open call for contributions.
Whether it’s time, skills, or even those long-forgotten extra-long curtains, every contribution is a brushstroke towards creating a richer, more vibrant artistic tapestry in the heart of Redland City.
