Holiday Sessions Aim to Boost Wellington Point Bowls Club’s Junior Development Squad

Leanne Grieve, the Bowls Coordinator for Wellington Point Bowls Club, has expressed her hopes that the recent success of two school holiday junior sessions will bolster the club’s Junior Development squad.

These sessions took place on both Wednesdays during the two-week break and attracted approximately 40 players each.

Grieve revealed this was the second time these free try-bowling sessions were organised during school holidays. As a result, five talented bowlers have been selected to join the Friday afternoon squad (3:30 pm to 4:30 pm), where they will learn to play and eventually compete.

“I am optimistic that these new rounds of free sessions will attract even more junior players,” Grieve stated.

She firmly believes that lawn bowls have evolved into a sport that transcends age barriers, no longer limited to senior players. Grieve pointed out the unique appeal of bowls, which attracts players aged eight to 80 years old and offers a lifelong opportunity for participation.

Michael Sorrenson expertly led the holiday sessions from Bowls Australia. During the event, the players had the pleasure of meeting Cr Wendy Boglary, who had previously granted $2,311 to the club for the purchase of six sets of junior bowls.

With the growing interest in junior bowls and the continuous support from the community, Wellington Point Bowls Club is determined to cultivate young talent and ensure the sport’s longevity for generations to come.
