What’s happening?
Redland City Council is backing a week of free and low-cost activities across the Redlands Coast for Queensland Youth Week, running from 11 to 19 April.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said the funding would help local not-for-profit groups deliver events for young people across the community.
“Council recognises that young people make a significant contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of our community,” the Mayor said.
She said the program sits within Council’s Redlands Coast Young People’s Action Plan 2024-2027.
“Through the Redlands Coast Young People’s Action Plan 2024-2027, Council is committed to creating and promoting opportunities that bring young people together and foster connection.”
Activities funded this year include a colour run, creative sessions, clay workshops, archery warfare, hoverball, an obstacle course and a youth fun festival.
Why it matters?
The program is aimed at helping young people take part in activities they may not usually access.
Mayor Mitchell said the funded events were designed to reduce barriers and build stronger community connection.
“One of the outcomes of this action plan is the Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week Program that provides funding for the delivery of community events that are culturally inclusive, intergenerational or lifestyle focused.”
“These events enable young people aged 12 to 25 to participate in activities they may not usually be able to access due to cost or other factors.”
That gives the week a practical purpose, not just a calendar date. It helps local young people spend time together in spaces built for fun, creativity and inclusion.
Local Impact
The funded events will be held across Russell Island, Victoria Point, Capalaba and Redland Bay.
That spread means young people in different parts of the Redlands Coast will have access to activities closer to home.
The mix of events also reflects different interests, from sport and movement to art, music and hands-on workshops.
By the numbers
- Six local not-for-profit organisations received funding to deliver Youth Week events across the Redlands Coast this year.
- Young people aged 12 to 25 are the focus of the program, with events aimed at making activities more accessible.
- The 2024-2027 action plan gives the program a longer-term place in Council’s youth planning, rather than treating it as a one-off event.

Zoom Out
Queensland Youth Week gives councils and community groups a clear chance to support young people through local events.
On the Redlands Coast, that support is being delivered through a program linked to the Council’s broader youth action plan.
This keeps the focus on connection, inclusion and access, while giving community organisations a direct role in delivery.
What To Look For Next?
From 11 to 19 April, the funded program will roll out across the coast, with selected events requiring direct bookings through the host organisations. Council’s Youth Week webpage will also remain the main place for event details.
