Redland City Council has allocated over $100,000 through its sponsorship program for 2022-23, providing a significant boost to community-led events and initiatives. Mayor Karen Williams emphasised the program’s positive impact on the local economy and diverse range of activities, including sports, culture, arts, social gatherings, and entertainment across Redlands Coast. By supporting these events, the council fosters community growth and vitality while showcasing the region’s richness.

The program includes funding for Quandamooka cultural awareness and inclusion activities, with four out of ten successful applications qualifying for this support. Among the funded projects, Redcity Roar Basketball Association’s Indigenous Round will not only host an Indigenous Recognition Hostplus Cup Match but also provide island clinics to enhance the skills of local players. The Wynnum Manly Seagulls Rugby League Football Club, in collaboration with Deadly Choices and Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health, will organize health clinics alongside the cup match to promote positive health outcomes in the community. Additionally, the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council Aboriginal Corporation will celebrate with a NAIDOC Community Day, while the North Stradbroke Arts and Pottery Group will showcase island artists through the Straddie Arts Trail. Council sponsorship will also support the Straddie Invitational 2023, hosted by the Point Lookout Boardriders in partnership with Surfing Queensland.
Moreover, Council sponsorship extends to established events such as Greazefest, now in its 23rd year. This recognition acknowledges the skill and experience of the organizers in creating a dynamic event that attracts numerous participants and community members. Such events hold significant value for Redlands Coast, contributing to social resilience, and community connectedness, and providing a boost to the local economy. Other recipients of Council sponsorship in this round include the Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival, Coochiemudlo Festival, Coochiemudlo Island Beach Markets, and the Bayside Vehicle Restorers’ annual Redlands Coast Australia Day Event. Community members and organizations can look forward to the next round of sponsorship opportunities opening in July.
