The Longer Version
Toondah Harbour, an exciting modern coastal village, is poised to transform Redlands into a vibrant harbourside precinct. This ambitious project will create stunning new foreshore parklands, complete with a lagoon and water play area, walking and cycling trails, and contemporary waterfront homes and marina coves.
The much-needed upgrades to ferry facilities will enable easier access to North Stradbroke Island and potentially the southern Moreton Bay islands, while new recreational boating facilities will bring additional tourism and economic benefits to the Redlands Coast community.
Set to be developed by Walker Corporation in collaboration with state and local government over a 15-20 year period, the revitalisation of Toondah Harbour will bolster confidence in the Redlands Coast’s economic future and create ongoing local employment opportunities for residents.
The new state-of-the-art port facility will serve as the gateway to North Stradbroke Island and the bay islands, with increased capacity for charter and additional operators to facilitate investment in new nature and culture-based eco-tourism experiences. Toondah Harbour’s master plan includes a portside promenade, improved terminal facilities, and 30% more car parking for ferry users.
Acknowledging the environmental and cultural significance of Toondah Harbour, the project is undergoing an extensive environmental assessment, with an environmental impact statement (EIS) to be considered by the Australian Government.
The development promises a brighter local future for the Redlands Coast, supporting local businesses and generating ongoing tourism. Toondah Harbour will also become a lively new destination, connecting the heart and soul of Redlands Coast and offering entertainment, education, and employment opportunities for everyone to enjoy.
As a premier leisure destination, Toondah Harbour will feature 3.5 hectares of foreshore parklands, a South Bank-style lagoon pool and water play area, and 1.5 kilometres of low-impact boardwalks, nature and heritage trails. The new development is expected to bring 50,000 new visitors annually, generating $17 million for the local economy and creating jobs in retail, commercial, and tourism-related industries.
