What’s happening?
The Queensland Government has released the Delivering 2032 and Beyond plan, outlining legacy infrastructure projects ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The plan, developed following a 100-day review and community input, sets out how the state will deliver major new venues and upgrades, including a new Brisbane Stadium at Victoria Park and a National Aquatic Centre in Spring Hill.
Notably, the Redlands region is set to benefit from the creation of a brand-new Redland Whitewater Centre.
Why it matters?
The plan is designed not only to support the Games but to create long-lasting community and sporting benefits for the Greater Brisbane region. Premier David Crisafulli said:
“Brisbane will be centre stage for the greatest show on earth and the benefits will last for decades after the Closing Ceremony.
“With major new venues and upgraded sports facilities, greater Brisbane will have high-performance venues attracting world events beyond 2032.
“A new stadium will allow Queensland to attract sporting and music events and be the new home for AFL and Cricket.
“Delivering 2032 and Beyond is a gamechanger for our State and with this plan we will deliver a Games all Queenslanders can be proud of.”
Local Impact (Redlands focus)
The Redlands will host the future Redland Whitewater Centre within the Birkdale Community Precinct, cementing its role in the 2032 Olympic landscape.
The centre will support canoe slalom events during the Games and become a lasting community and sport tourism asset. Its placement within the Birkdale Community Precinct ensures integration with existing environmental and recreational planning, while boosting the area’s economy and visibility.

The addition of this high-performance venue is expected to elevate Redlands’ sporting profile and contribute to increased participation in water sports, while creating job opportunities during its construction and operational phases.
By the Numbers:
-
1 new Redland Whitewater Centre to be built within the Birkdale Community Precinct, positioning Redlands as a key Olympic venue.
-
20,000-seat outdoor arena upgrade to the RNA Showgrounds will boost capacity for events like the Ekka.
-
3000-seat show court and 12 match courts will be added to the Queensland Tennis Centre to attract more international tournaments to Brisbane.
Zoom In
The inclusion of the Redland Whitewater Centre highlights the Queensland Government’s commitment to spreading Olympic benefits beyond Brisbane’s inner core.
The Birkdale site, already earmarked for community and environmental development, will now become a world-class venue attracting athletes and visitors from around the world.
Zoom Out
Across Greater Brisbane, the Delivering 2032 and Beyond plan maps a network of sports and community infrastructure designed for longevity.
From upgraded arenas in Logan and Moreton to the repurposing of The Gabba into a residential and entertainment precinct, the Games are being leveraged as a vehicle for long-term transformation. By moving the Brisbane Arena project to a privately delivered site at Woolloongabba, the plan also unlocks federal funding for essential infrastructure elsewhere.
What to Look For Next?
Design and development timelines for the Redland Whitewater Centre are expected to be announced as part of the broader delivery phase.
Local stakeholders and residents will likely be engaged in further planning stages to ensure the centre complements the Birkdale Community Precinct’s broader environmental and social goals.
