Redlands receives $95K boost for Community Initiatives

Redland City Council

What’s Happening?

Redland City Council has awarded over $95,000 in the first round of its 2024–2025 sponsorship program to support a variety of events, activities, and initiatives across the Redlands Coast.

The program funds community-led initiatives that align with Council’s objectives, which include fostering collaboration, enhancing the local economy, strengthening social connections, and promoting cultural awareness.

Why It Matters?

These sponsorships are vital for enhancing the social and cultural vibrancy of Redlands Coast.

By funding diverse events such as sports tournaments, social gatherings, and cultural celebrations, the program strengthens community bonds while stimulating the local economy.

Mayor Jos Mitchell highlighted the importance of the program in creating a “sense of place” and providing cultural immersion opportunities, saying, “The sponsorship program provides funding and in-kind support to help community-led organisations deliver events, initiatives and activities that directly benefit the community and the Redlands Coast economy.”

Local Impact

The sponsorship program has already supported 10 events this financial year, including the Diwali cultural celebrations in Capalaba, which brought together locals and visitors for a vibrant showcase of music, food, and dance.

Mayor Mitchell described it as a “fantastic event for the community, bringing people together from Redlands Coast and beyond while also showcasing the wonderful cultural diversity of our city.”

Other funded events include the Straddie Salute Triathlon, Redlands Coast Masters Sevens Football, and the Wynnum Manly Seagulls reconciliation game on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).

Zoom In

The program’s inclusion of Quandamooka Cultural Awareness Funding underscores its commitment to cultural preservation and education.

This funding supports experiences such as smoking ceremonies and cultural demonstrations at Council-sponsored events, enriching attendees’ understanding of Indigenous heritage.

Zoom Out

Community sponsorship initiatives like this have far-reaching benefits beyond the immediate region.

They foster regional collaboration, boost tourism, and provide a platform for diverse cultural representation, enhancing the overall appeal of Redlands Coast.

What to Look for Next?

Organisations can start preparing for the second round of sponsorship applications, set to open in February 2025.

Mayor Mitchell encouraged participation, saying, “I thank the groups that have already delivered events this financial year and encourage others to begin preparing their application for the next funding round.”
