What’s Happening?
Bay FM presenter Georgia Phillips is swapping the radio studio for the stage in MATES Theatre Genesis’ September production. The Sweet Delilah Swim Club will mark her first theatre performance and one of her biggest personal challenges.
Phillips will play Lexie, a confident and flirtatious woman whose personality could not be more different from her own. Known for trying new experiences, Phillips has taken on that contrast as a personal test.
Why It Matters
The play is a warm, witty and uplifting celebration of female friendship. It examines marriage breakdown, parenting, ageing and mental health through the changing lives of its characters.
Serious moments sit naturally beside comedy, allowing the story to address difficult experiences without losing its humour.
Local Impact
MATES Theatre Genesis is the longest-running community theatre group in the Redlands. It welcomes people of all experience levels to take part in theatrical productions.
The September season will be presented at Birkdale School of Arts Hall, 101 Birkdale Road, Birkdale. Phillips’ casting also connects a familiar local radio voice with the region’s theatre community.

Phillips explained what drew her to the challenge and how the cast helped during rehearsals.
“I love challenging myself and trying new things,” Georgia said. “Playing someone so different from myself has really pushed me outside my comfort zone, but rehearsing with such a supportive cast has given me the confidence to embrace the role.”

Written by Jones Hope Wooten, the production is directed by Jacqueline Kerr. Kerr explained why she believes its characters will connect with audiences.
“It’s funny, touching and incredibly honest,” she said. “Almost everyone will recognise themselves, or someone they know, in these characters.”

The season opens at 7.30 pm on Friday 18 September 2026. Saturday 19 September has performances at 2 pm and 7.30 pm.
The same times return on Saturday 26 September. The final performance will begin at 2 pm on Sunday 27 September.
