The Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce joined community members, students, and local leaders at the grand opening of The BUSY School Cleveland Campus last 3 November 2024.
The event featured a Welcome to Country by Quandamooka Elder Uncle Raymond Walker, an inspiring speech by a BUSY School student, and a plaque unveiling by MP Amanda Stoker, marking a significant step forward for the Cleveland community.

“Uncle Raymond, as always, it was a pleasure to see you do the Welcome to Country,” noted one guest, highlighting the community’s gratitude for his words and presence.
Attendees heard from Grace, a student at the Cleveland Campus, who shared her educational journey and the impact The BUSY School has had on her life.
Her story illustrated the difference a supportive, alternative educational environment can make.
The Hon Amanda Stoker, MP for Oodgeroo, joined the event and had the honour of unveiling the commemorative plaque, a symbolic moment marking the campus’s official opening.
“It’s a privilege to be here today and to witness firsthand the impact of The BUSY School on young lives,” she expressed.

“A huge thank you to the incredible principal, Andrew Cavanagh, and his dedicated team, who have done exceptional work in helping disengaged youth find their path and succeed,” shared one attendee, capturing the community’s appreciation for the school’s staff.
The event concluded on an emotional note with a graduating Year 12 student sharing her story of personal growth and transformation.
“Hearing how far she has come was both emotional and a powerful testament to the impact that schools like The BUSY School can have on young lives,” reflected the Chamber, adding a deeply personal touch to the event.
