Honouring the Unsung Heroes of Redland City’s Ecosystem
Redlands Coast IndigiScapes Environmental Centre is gearing up to celebrate Australian Pollinator Week from 11-19 November, paying tribute to the invaluable contributions of our “Busy Bs“—birds, bees, butterflies, and bats.
This week-long event aims to raise awareness about the vital role these pollinators play in our environment and educate the community on how to protect and support them.
A Naturally Wonderful Week of Activities
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams emphasises the significance of pollinators, stating, “We simply cannot live without them.”
To highlight their importance and promote conservation efforts, IndigiScapes has organised a series of captivating activities, presentations, and workshops suitable for all ages.
Inside the Discovery Centre, visitors can delve into the special role of pollinators, while interactive games using the Agents of Discovery app provide an engaging learning experience. Craft activities offer a hands-on approach to understanding the world of pollinators.
Additionally, the IndigiScapes café and gift shop will feature a delectable selection of produce sourced from the hard work of these remarkable creatures.
Creating a Pollinator-Friendly Garden
For those interested in making their gardens more pollinator-friendly, the nursery offers a special “pollinator pack” consisting of six native plants that support local wildlife species.
By incorporating these plants into their gardens, residents can contribute to the well-being of the Redland City ecosystem.
Festivities and Insightful Presentations
Australian Pollinator Week at IndigiScapes will feature a range of exciting events. On Saturday, November 11, visitors can enjoy a free film presentation by Martin Fingland of Geckoes Wildlife, showcasing forest pollinators and seed dispersers.
Messy Pollinator Play sessions in the botanic gardens, led by Gumtreekids, offer a fun and educational experience for children (registration is required).
On Tuesday, November 14, Nursery Coordinator Ben Webb will lead a native plant propagation and botanic garden tour, providing valuable insights into plant cultivation (registration is essential).
