Recognising Remarkable Contributions
In a momentous general meeting, the Redland City Council celebrated three outstanding Redlands Coast residents named on this year’s Australia Day Honours List for their exceptional contributions to the community.
Dr Vicki Flenady of Coochiemudlo Island, James Niven of Birkdale, and Joan Brotherton, a Redlands Coast Bowls representative, were formally acknowledged for their remarkable achievements.
Dr Vicki Flenady: Pioneering Medical Research
Dr Vicki Flenady, a Coochiemudlo Island resident, was honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant contributions to medical research, particularly in the field of perinatal mortality.
With roles spanning the International Stillbirth Alliance, Mater Research Institute, and the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand, Dr Flenady’s dedication to the field has left an indelible mark.
James Niven: A Pillar in Building and Construction
James Niven, hailing from Birkdale, received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his commendable service to the building and construction industry.
His extensive involvement with the Australian Institute of Building, both at the state and national level, showcases his commitment and expertise, making him a key figure in the industry.
Joan Brotherton: Bowls Enthusiast and Community Leader
Joan Brotherton, honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), has made a lasting impact on lawn bowls.
Actively participating on the Redlands Coast and throughout Queensland, her roles within the Gateway District Ladies Bowls Association and Victoria Point Bowls and Recreation Club exemplify her dedication and leadership within the sport.
