Redlands Coast, Sept. 9 – The 21st annual Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast proved to be a resounding success, raising close to $20,000 in support of state school chaplaincy programs in the region. Mayor Karen Williams expressed her delight at the event’s outcome, highlighting the increasing financial burdens faced by many members of the community.
Mayor Williams emphasised the importance of continuing to back programs like school chaplaincy, which offer essential well-being support not only to students but also to local families and school staff across Redlands Coast. She revealed that this year’s funds would supplement the impressive sum of over $195,000 collected through these breakfast events since 2014, directly benefiting approximately 15,000 students each year.
In a heartwarming moment, the event also featured the presentation of the fourth Pastor Glen Gray Award, which recognises an exceptional school chaplain. Pastor Neale Collier, serving as chaplain at Cleveland District State High School since 2002, was honoured this year for his unwavering dedication.
Pastor Collier’s contributions extend beyond the school’s walls as he supports students through various means, mentoring them in organising activities and fundraisers for those in need. His practical support extends to providing hampers, furniture, and educational resources. Notably, Pastor Collier has spurred the school community to make a global impact by establishing over 60 libraries in struggling schools throughout Vanuatu.
Mayor Williams commended Pastor Collier, stating, “Neale is a very worthy recipient of the Pastor Glen Gray Award, and I commend him for the work he has done to support his school and the wider community.”
The event’s success would not have been possible without the generous contributions of sponsors and supporters, including:
- Diamond sponsor: Vision Christian Media
- Gold sponsor: Renaissance Retirement Living
- Silver sponsor: Redland Investment Corporation
- Bronze sponsors: Alex Gow Funerals, Christian Business Network, Cole and Yarrow real estate, The Cage Youth Foundation, and Villawood Properties
- Event supporters: Alexandra Hills Hotel, CPC Production Services, and Sunnydale Green Solutions
- Major donors: Albert Benfer, and Peter and Marlene Sprague
The diverse gathering at this year’s breakfast included school chaplains, school and church leaders, government representatives, businesspeople, and community members.
