Redland City Council’s Fresh Fund to Tackle Rising Living Expenses

The council has approved a new fund that will help vulnerable people in Redland City cope with living expenses. Local community groups can apply for a share of the $500,000 fund from October 2023, Mayor Karen Williams announced.

This unique fund has been established with the primary goal of extending a helping hand to those in our community facing the most pressing challenges. Mayor Williams emphasised the Council’s recognition of the difficulties faced by some Redlands Coast residents, including those who struggle to afford basic necessities like food and essential household items.

The Civic Support Fund is designed to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our most vulnerable community members. Eligible community organisations will have the chance to apply for grants to support initiatives addressing local needs that may not be covered by other levels of government assistance. These initiatives could encompass a wide range of services, from providing essential supplies like food and clothing to offering programs that help residents manage their budgets and access community meals.

The creation of this fund supports our Corporate Plan’s goals of improving the community’s health, safety and well-being, helping the community cope with economic changes, and fostering community inclusion.

Community organisations can benefit from the Civic Support Fund, which provides grants ranging from $5000 to $50,000. The fund is open for applications throughout the 2023-2024 fiscal year, or until the money runs out. The details on how to apply for the Civic Support Fund grants will be announced shortly.
