The Redland City Council has voted to oppose the State Government’s supposed plans to declare a Priority Development Area (PDA) over the Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area. The proposed PDA is situated between Woodlands Dr, Springacre Rd, Taylor Rd, Boundary Rd, Duncan Rd and Mount Cotton Rd. About a decade ago, the Council had requested three PDAs but was only granted two, namely Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek. Unfortunately, neither of these PDAs has been successful, with Toondah remaining stagnant and Weinam Creek becoming a burden on the City’s ratepayers.
The Council appears to have realized the negative impact of utilizing PDAs to manage town planning due to the lack of community involvement. In light of this, it would be wise for the Council to request that the State Government revoke the Toondah and Weinam Creek PDAs. Doing so would allow for greater community engagement and better planning processes to be implemented in these areas.
