Redland City Considers Cutting Councillors for Fairer Representation

Redland City is considering a reduction in division councillors, with proposals to cut down the number from 10 to either 8 or 6. This comes after a recent review of Ipswich City Council, where the number of division councilors remains unchanged. Ipswich has eight division councillors, who serve an average of 28,651 people. In comparison, Redland City’s ten division councillors serve an average of 15,922 people, leading to concerns about equitable representation in the region.

Calls for the State Government to consider reducing the number of division councillors in Redland City have been growing. The aim is to create a fairer distribution of representation for residents. The move is expected to improve accountability and decision-making while ensuring that each councillor has a more manageable workload. The Redland City Council is currently reviewing the proposals and is expected to provide its decision in the coming months.
