What’s Happening
The Gympie Music Muster combined the power of music and sustainability this year, raising a record $141,780 for River’s Gift, its 2025 charity partner supporting SIDS research and awareness.
Gympie Music Muster CEO Greg Cavanagh said, “From donuts to cans and auctions, every dollar raised makes a difference, and we’re proud to support River’s Gift in their mission.”
Why It Matters
The partnership went beyond fundraising, it turned environmental action into real community benefit. Container Exchange (COEX) confirmed the Muster achieved the largest container return event in Queensland’s history, with over 370,000 containers collected.
COEX spokesperson Joe Fitzgerald said, “This event demonstrates the true environmental, social and economic benefit of Queensland’s container refund scheme.”
Local Containers for Change operator Change Exchange managed collection logistics, ensuring smooth recycling operations. General Manager Steve Cox said, “It takes more than bins to make it happen. We help organisers turn container refunds into real impact.”
By The Numbers
• The $141,780 raised marks the biggest single donation the Gympie Music Muster has ever made to a charity partner.
• River’s Gift originally set a fundraising target of $110,000, which was exceeded by more than $30,000.
• A total of 8,000 Finding Hope books will be distributed through Queensland childcare centres to promote safe sleep education.
• More than 370,000 containers were saved from landfill through Containers for Change returns during the event.
Zoom In
The festival’s recycling efforts and charitable spirit were supported by community groups. The Military Brotherhood MMC Cooloola–Sunshine Coast Inc. donated half of their iconic donut sales. Club President Moose said, “This one’s close to everybody’s heart because it’s all about kids.”
Beyond donations, Moose said the program has become therapy for veterans. “Instead of crowds making our PTSD veterans worse, it’s actually brought them out of their shells.”
Zoom Out
The funds raised will enable River’s Gift to distribute 8,000 Finding Hope books across Queensland childcare centres, raising awareness about safe sleep practices to prevent SIDS. Co-founder Alexandra Hamilton said, “People will now have access to a lovely story and key safe sleep information.”
