NDIS respite experiences on Coochiemudlo Island

Coochie Island

What’s happening

NDIS participants have two opportunities to recharge in June, with Starfish Support offering their Connect to Movement respite experiences on Coochiemudlo Island. The men’s weekend runs 13–15 June, followed by the women’s program from 20–22 June

Why it matters

Quality respite is about more than taking a break — it’s about connection, confidence and community. These experiences give NDIS participants a chance to try something new, feel supported, and enjoy time away in a safe, inclusive setting.

Each 3-day experience is thoughtfully designed to support wellbeing and social connection. The men’s program includes archery, fishing, games, and campfire chats. The women’s program offers body flow, jewellery making, candle making, sound healing, and more. Both weekends are fully supported (1:2 ratio) and tailored to individual comfort levels. Accommodation, all meals and activities are included.

By the numbers

Two programs, three days each, one peaceful island. Many participants are returning from previous events — a testament to the connection and joy these weekends bring.

Local impact

Starfish Support directors Donna Laughlin and Marika Stephenson are proud locals.

“It’s more than a break,” said Donna. “We’ve created something that helps people feel safe, included and free to be themselves.”
