Moreton Bay to join nationwide Light-Up for Feeding Tube Awareness

What’s happening?

Moreton Bay landmarks will light up in purple and blue from 2–8 February 2025 as part of Feeding Tube Awareness Week (FTAW).

Organised by ausEE Inc., this initiative includes over 120 landmarks across Australia and New Zealand, raising awareness about the importance of tube feeding.

Moreton Bay joins other Queensland regions like Brisbane, Townsville, and the Gold Coast in supporting the campaign to educate and unite communities about life with feeding tubes.

Why it matters?

Tube feeding, or enteral nutrition, is essential for individuals unable to meet their nutritional needs through regular eating and drinking due to medical conditions, including eosinophilic diseases.

Sarah Gray, CEO of ausEE Inc., emphasised, “Feeding Tube Awareness Week aims to increase community support and understanding about tube feeding and the impact on individuals, carers, and families.”

This awareness fosters greater understanding, reduces stigma, and strengthens support for those who rely on feeding tubes.

Local Impact

Residents of Moreton Bay are encouraged to visit illuminated landmarks, take photos, and share them on social media using hashtags like #FTAWLightUp, #FTAW2025, and #TubieTuesday.

The campaign offers a chance for locals to stand in solidarity with individuals and families navigating life with a feeding tube while promoting a message of inclusivity.

By the Numbers

  • Over 120 landmarks in Australia and New Zealand, including those in Moreton Bay, will participate in the FTAW light-up campaign.
  • Established in 2009, ausEE Inc. has been a key advocate for tube feeding awareness and eosinophilic disease support.
  • Many individuals with eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE) require feeding tubes to meet their nutritional needs and avoid complications.

Zoom In

Moreton Bay’s involvement in the #FTAWLightUp campaign highlights the region’s dedication to raising awareness and supporting inclusion.

Sarah Gray noted, “Purple is a common colour of feeding tube supplies, and blue represents what flows through the tube, be it blended foods, breastmilk, formula, or water.”

Locals can also engage with #MyTubie stories and #SpecialistSpotlight profiles shared throughout the week to gain a deeper understanding of the role feeding tubes play in improving lives.

Zoom Out

This campaign extends across Australia and New Zealand, with major cities and regional centres joining together to illuminate landmarks.

Feeding Tube Awareness Week builds momentum for ausEE’s ongoing mission to raise awareness, advocate for individuals with eosinophilic diseases, and foster better support and understanding.
