What’s happening?
Parking changes are coming to Moores Road in Redland Bay as Redland City Council works to improve access around the Weinam Creek precinct.
The Moores Road car park forms part of a staged program of improvements across the area. It is used by commuters and visitors travelling to and from the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, as well as the wider Redlands Coast community.
Council said the planned changes will include updated signage and new timed parking zones.
Why it matters?
The Weinam Creek precinct is an important ferry access point for island residents, workers and visitors.
When vehicles are left for long periods, it can reduce parking availability for people trying to reach nearby ferry services. Council says the new timed parking zones are designed to make better use of existing spaces while longer-term plans progress.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said parking demand at Weinam Creek had placed pressure on the area, especially during peak commuter times.
“We know parking at Weinam Creek is under pressure, particularly during peak commuter times,” she said.
“These changes at the Moores Road car park are about improving turnover and availability, making it easier for people to find a parking space to access the ferry terminal.”
Cr Talty said Council was also working with the Queensland Government, through Economic Development Queensland, on a long-term parking solution for Weinam Creek.
“EDQ will fund and deliver the new multi-level car park at Weinam Creek,” she said.
“In the meantime, we’re taking practical steps that can be delivered sooner – starting at Moores Road – to improve how existing parking is used.”
Local Impact
The changes will affect how long vehicles can remain in parts of the Moores Road car park.
Council is encouraging anyone who leaves a vehicle parked for extended periods at Weinam Creek to check the updated signage once the new conditions begin.
Detailed information, including maps and the start date for any new parking conditions, will be available on Council’s website.
Division 5 Councillor Shane Rendalls said regular parking turnover in the Moores Road area would create a fairer system for commuters travelling to and from the islands.
“This is another step in the ongoing evolution of Weinam Creek and will support greater parking availability for those using the nearby ferry services,” he said.
By the Numbers
- The Moores Road car park has added more than 500 spaces for Southern Moreton Bay Islands commuters under stage one of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area project.
- Council will convert 384 currently unrestricted spaces into timed parking, split between seven-day and three-day stays.
- The changes will create 297 seven-day spaces, 87 three-day spaces and 38 one-day vehicle with boat trailer spaces.

The first changes will focus on the Moores Road car park, where existing spaces will be managed through new time limits.
Most of the affected spaces will move from unrestricted parking to seven-day parking. A smaller group will become three-day parking.
Boat trailer parking will also change, with 38 spaces shifting from three-day parking to one-day parking.
Council says these changes are intended to improve turnover while keeping parking available for ferry users.

Zoom Out
The Moores Road changes sit within the wider Weinam Creek improvement program.
The car park was delivered by Council in partnership with Redland Investment Corporation under stage one of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area project.
A longer-term solution is also planned, with Economic Development Queensland to fund and deliver a new multi-level car park at Weinam Creek.
Until then, Council says it is making practical changes to improve how current parking is used.
What To Look For Next?
Council will release detailed maps and the confirmed start date for the new Moores Road parking conditions on its website.
Once the changes begin, ferry users and visitors will need to check the updated signage before leaving a vehicle in the area. The timed zones are expected to improve parking turnover while work continues on the longer-term multi-level car park planned for Weinam Creek.
