What’s happening?
A five day Sydney auction starting Monday 24 November 2025 will place rare gold coins and medals in front of keen bidders. Monday will run as an eSale, with live sessions held from Tuesday to Friday at the State Library’s Michael Crouch Room in Macquarie Street.

Gold has climbed almost 50 percent this year. This rise has pushed collectors and investors to look closely at high grade gold coins.

The auction features rare ancient gold pieces, including a Galba gold aureus at $70,000 and an Otho gold aureus at $50,000. Australia’s first gold coin, the 1852 Adelaide pound, appears as lot 848 with a $12,500 estimate. A Canadian gold sovereign 1916C, lot 1267, is listed at $30,000.
Two Victoria Cross medals will command strong attention. One was awarded to Robert Beatham, killed in action in France on 9 August 1918. King George V presented the medal to his mother in 1919. Its estimate is $500,000.
The second Victoria Cross was awarded to Corporal Daniel Alan Keighran for Most Conspicuous Acts of Gallantry in Afghanistan. The Governor General described him as “selfless in the face of threat, courageous in the face of terror, generous in the face of suffering and humble in the face of an honour bestowed.” It is listed at $800,000.
