What’s Happening?
Bayside detectives have charged five teenagers with more than 50 offences following an investigation into alleged car thefts and property crime.
The latest arrests followed a crash in Mount Cotton on Thursday, 16 July. Police received reports at 12.10 pm that an allegedly stolen BYD Seal had collided with a blue Hyundai i30.
The collision happened at the intersection of Double Jump Road and Mount Cotton Road. Police allege three juveniles fled the BYD before officers arrived.
The Hyundai driver, a man in his 60s, was the vehicle’s only occupant. He was taken to Redlands Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police established cordons around the area while the Brisbane Dog Squad began tracking the group. Officers later found three boys hiding in long grass nearby.
The group included two Victoria Point boys, aged 17 and 15, and a 16-year-old Coochiemudlo Island boy.

Police allege the Mount Cotton crash was connected to a wider series of offences across south-east Queensland.
Between 4 July and 11 July, a group allegedly entered homes and businesses across several communities. Vehicles were also allegedly stolen during some incidents.
The alleged activity stretched across Redlands, Brisbane, Logan, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Detectives have now charged five boys in connection with the investigation.
The charges include unlawful motor vehicle use, stealing, unlawful entry and drug possession. One charge also relates to the alleged use of a vehicle being published on social media.
The arrests form part of Operation Yankee Forge, a statewide initiative targeting repeat and high-harm offending.
Local Impact
The latest incident brought a large police response to Mount Cotton, including cordons and a Dog Squad search.
A local driver was also taken to Redlands Hospital after the crash. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Redland Bay and Birkdale were among the suburbs named in the alleged offence series. Several of the accused boys are also from Victoria Point, Coochiemudlo Island, and Redland Bay.
The cases are now moving through Cleveland Children’s Court, with separate appearances scheduled throughout July.

- 17-year-old Victoria Point boy: Police allege he committed several property offences across the Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast. He faces 24 charges, including eight counts of unlawful motor vehicle use, five counts of stealing, five counts of entering a dwelling and four counts of entering premises. He was due to appear in the Cleveland Children’s Court on 17 July.
- 15-year-old Victoria Point boy: Police arrested him near the Mount Cotton crash site after the Dog Squad search. He was charged with unlawful motor vehicle use and possession of dangerous drugs. He is due to appear in the Cleveland Children’s Court on 24 July.
- 16-year-old Coochiemudlo Island boy: He was also found hiding in long grass near the crash scene. Police charged him with unlawful motor vehicle use and possession of dangerous drugs. He is due to appear in the Cleveland Children’s Court on 24 July.
- 16-year-old Park Ridge boy: Police arrested him on 11 July and charged him with 25 offences. These include seven counts of unlawful motor vehicle use, four counts each of stealing, entering a dwelling and entering premises, and two counts of attempted entry. He first appeared in the Cleveland Children’s Court on 13 July.
- 15-year-old Redland Bay boy: He was charged on 7 July with two counts of unlawful motor vehicle use. A third charge relates to publishing the alleged vehicle use on social media. He is expected to appear in the Cleveland Children’s Court on 24 July.

The alleged break-ins and vehicle thefts occurred in Redland Bay, Birkdale, Tingalpa, Warner, Edens Landing, Pacific Pines, Oxenford and Palmview.
The investigation is linked to Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month, district-led initiative operating across Queensland.
The operation targets unlawful motor vehicle use, unlawful entry and robbery. Police regions will work with specialist squads on coordinated enforcement and crime prevention activities.
Officers will also work with partner agencies while investigating alleged offenders. Police say the operation will remain locally led and centrally coordinated.
This approach allows local officers to use their knowledge of community crime patterns while receiving support from specialist teams.
