Moreton Bay, Oct. 23, 2023 – In response to the escalating risk of bushfires exacerbated by the current weather conditions, the Department of Environment and Science – Parks and Forests has issued a strict fire prohibition within protected areas in Moreton Bay until further notice.
Moreton Bay Protected Areas Alerts and Prohibitions
Visitors are advised that fires must not be lit anywhere within these areas, including popular spots such as Minjerribah Recreation Area in North Stradbroke Island, Teerk Roo Ra National Park in Peel Island, and Naree Budjong Djara National Park in North Stradbroke Island.
During this fire prohibition, only fully enclosed cooking and heating appliances that meet specific requirements are allowed in camping areas. The Department urges residents and visitors to familiarise themselves with the guidelines outlined at parks.des.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/23350.
Compliance and Updates
All visitors must comply with the fire prohibition and adhere to any directions given by park rangers. Non-compliance may result in on-the-spot fines. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be diligently monitoring the situation and will promptly update the Park Alert should there be any changes in the conditions.
In the event of witnessing any wildfires, the public is urged to report them immediately by dialling Triple Zero (000).
