Mountain biking is no longer the domain of adrenaline junkies or elite athletes; it’s a rapidly growing sport among women in Australia, thanks to initiatives like the RATS Chick Ride from the RATS Cycling Club.

This introductory course, specifically designed for women, makes mountain biking accessible, fun, and social.

A Supportive Start for Beginners

The RATS Cycling Club is hosting a women’s introductory mountain bike course on 19th May 2024, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM AEST at Underwood Park.

This two-part course aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for women with limited or no mountain biking experience.

Expert coaches will guide participants through the fundamentals, from basic bike handling to navigating easy dirt trails.

Comprehensive Course Content

The course covers essential skills such as body position, braking, cornering, and basic obstacle crossing. Held primarily in flat grassy areas, the sessions gradually build confidence and competence.

By the end of the two sessions, participants will be prepared to embark on their own trail adventures.

Accessible and Inclusive

Understanding the importance of accessibility, the club offers bike loans for a nominal fee of $20, ensuring that lack of equipment isn’t a barrier to participation.

This fee covers both sessions, making the course affordable and inclusive. The first session on 19th May is a prerequisite for the second on 26th May, ensuring a structured and progressive learning experience.

Growing Interest in Women’s Mountain Biking

As mountain biking gains popularity among women in Australia, opportunities like the RATS Chick Ride are crucial in promoting the sport. These courses not only provide a new way to exercise but also foster a sense of community and adventure.

Register early to secure your spot, as spaces and bike loans are limited. The registration deadline is 24 hours before the first session, unless sold out prior.

Whether you’re seeking a new fitness routine or an exciting outdoor activity, this introductory course offers a perfect starting point.
