What’s happening?

Cycling Without Age – Redlands Coast will launch its first rides on 15 April, marking a major step for the local chapter after months of planning, community support and volunteer work.

Bookings are now open for older adults, people living with disability, aged care providers, carers and family members. The chapter said it is ready to bring “the right to wind in your hair” to the local community through free community rides along the coast.

The group has also launched its website, giving locals a central place for updates, bookings and chapter information. At the same time, its Redland City Council Rapid Response grant application has been approved, helping the chapter build a safe and sustainable program.

Why it matters?

The launch gives more people a chance to enjoy the coastline, fresh air and social connection in a supported setting.

It also reflects strong local backing. The chapter said the approved council grant will help cover volunteer equipment, safety needs and other essentials needed to get rides running.

Because the service is volunteer-run, community support remains a key part of keeping rides free and accessible.

Local Impact

The rides will run along a simple local route between Raby Bay Harbourside and Raby Bay Foreshore Park, giving eligible passengers a relaxed outing by the water close to home.

For Redlands Coast families, carers and service providers, it creates another local option for connection and community participation. A carer is required for each ride or ride group where needed.

The chapter is also creating more ways for locals to get involved through volunteer roles for pilots, scouts and concierges.

By the numbers

  • The first rides begin on 15 April, marking the official start of the chapter’s community program after months of preparation.
  • Regular rides are set for three days each week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday – giving the chapter a steady weekly presence.
  • Each booking will run for about 30 minutes, with rides scheduled between 9.30 am and 12 pm on regular service days.

Bookings are now being taken directly by phone on 0494 612 754 or by email at Bookings.RedlandsCWA@gmail.com.

The chapter said extra sessions may also be offered outside the regular timetable for community events and group bookings.

It also thanked Kate at Sixth Insight for bringing the new website to life, saying the site will serve as a home base for all things Cycling Without Age – Redlands Coast.

Volunteers remain central to the chapter’s work. The group thanked everyone who has already offered their time, skills and support, along with the trainers preparing pilots, scouts and concierges for launch.

Existing volunteers have been reminded to complete their National Crime Check and required training. The chapter said more details on volunteer shifts would also be shared in a follow-up newsletter.

Zoom Out

Cycling Without Age chapters are built on a simple idea – helping people reconnect with their community through shared outdoor experiences.

In Redlands Coast, that idea is now moving into action with local funding, volunteer support and a clear ride program ready to begin.

The chapter said the milestone shows the strength of the local community and the willingness of people to help make the program work.

What To Look For Next?

As rides begin, the chapter is expected to keep building its weekly booking program while also adding special sessions for events and group bookings when available.

More volunteer shifts are due to be organised, and further community support will remain important through donations, Chuffed contributions and Containers for Change.

The group said, “This is just the beginning,” as it works to bring more “joy, connection, and dignity” to the community, one ride at a time.
