Council Allocates Funds for Seniors Month Events
Seniors in the Redlands are getting some well-deserved assistance to stay fit and healthy.

Redland City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering social connections among seniors by allocating $8050 in funding to support six local organisations hosting events during Queensland Seniors Month in October. These initiatives aim to celebrate the invaluable contributions of the senior community while promoting meaningful interactions and friendships among older residents.

Mayor Karen Williams emphasised the significance of the Seniors Month funding program in alignment with the month’s theme of ‘social connections.’ The program is vital in providing seniors with opportunities to engage with others, enhancing their sense of belonging and overall well-being.

Underpinning this effort is the Redlands Coast Age-Friendly Action Plan 2021-2026, specifically designed to support and value residents of all ages, ensuring active and fulfilling lives for all. Seniors living in the region enrich the Redlands Coast with their diverse experiences, cultures, lifestyles, and interests, making them an integral part of the local neighbourhoods.

By bringing seniors together through events, the council aims to foster meaningful connections and lasting friendships, thereby mitigating loneliness and isolation and promoting community well-being.

Mayor Williams highlighted that this year marks the third consecutive year of the dedicated Seniors Month funding program, demonstrating the council’s ongoing commitment to supporting seniors in the community. The program supports diverse activities, including arts and crafts, tea workshops, social tennis, and even a delightful teddy bear picnic.

The recipients of the 2023 Seniors Month grants include Redland Community Centre Inc, Probus Association of Queensland Inc, Donald Simpson Community Centre, Redland Coast Art Society Inc, Blue Care, and Redland Bay Tennis Club

Each organisation is committed to organising events that cater to the varying interests and mobility levels of older residents, ensuring a prosperous and inclusive experience for all participants.

As October approaches, anticipation builds for the Seniors Month events, as the council’s funding initiative promises to create memorable and engaging experiences for seniors across the Redlands Coast community.
