The community petition requests that Redland City take immediate action to improve the quality and availability of public swimming facilities.

THE FIRST OLYMPIC-SIZED POOL OPEN TO PUBLIC

The Cleveland Aquatic Centre, which opened in November 1977, is Redland City’s only public Olympic-sized swimming pool. Belgravia Leisure manages this facility.

Admission fees have climbed over time, with the current charge for individuals aged three and up set at $6.50. Redland City still has only one 50-meter Olympic-length pool, despite its expanding population.

URGENT REPAIRS NEEDED

The Cleveland Aquatic Centre in Redland is plagued by serious issues such as broken pipes, cracked paint, mouldy showers, and sewerage leaks. Redland City Council claims to have completed pool renovations in 2020 and has budgeted $416,000 for additional work.

THE PETITION

The community wants the council to take action to improve public swimming facilities in Redland City, such as lowering admission fees, renovating the old Cleveland Aquatic Complex, increasing access to the Bay Islands Aquatic Centre, and conducting a comprehensive study to determine the community’s current and future needs.

The Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11th, at 9:30 a.m. and can be observed from the public gallery or live webcast.
