What’s Happening
Local Bayside soccer club Capalaba Bulldogs held their PINK DAY festivities last weekend, an annual event organised to raise funds to help fight cancer.
Why It Matters
Over 60 of the club’s junior and senior teams played in specially designed pink shirts, with all proceeds from the shirts going to charity.
In addition to the players, hundreds of parents, partners, and volunteers joined in across the whole weekend. Face painting and family-friendly activities made it a weekend to remember at John Frederick Park.
What They Said
Club President Shaun McAney estimated nearly 1,000 people visited the club, with the event on track to exceed last year’s fundraising tally of $15,000. “Pink Day is a unique event that unites both our local and football communities,” McAney told the Redland City Minute. “Each of us has been influenced by someone affected by the disease, and this is our way of giving back. Our volunteers and club officials worked tirelessly to plan for the weekend, and it was heartening to see rival clubs embracing the event too. The reward comes in the form of smiles and laughter shared by all attendees, as well as allowing us to distribute the funds raised to three different charitable causes.”
Looking Back
The PINK DAY tradition started over ten years ago to support one of the club members. What began as a single Pink Day game has evolved into a Pink Weekend, with all opposition teams invited to join in. This year, the club sold over 650 shirts, with all proceeds going towards the cause.
Capalaba Bulldogs have teams across all age groups for both boys and girls, with Academy and Community level teams competing up to NPL level.
Senior men’s and women’s teams are represented at Football Queensland Premier League 1 level, and the club even has over 35 teams for older players looking to stay active.
