What’s happening?
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee has delivered a progress update to the International Olympic Committee during the IOC’s 145th Session in Milan.
The update was presented by Brisbane 2032 President Andrew Liveris and CEO Cindy Hook, ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games starting on 6 February.
Mr Liveris confirmed the organising committee’s first commercial partner will be announced in the second quarter of this year. He said the partner will be one of the largest companies in Australia.
The Brisbane 2032 leadership team also confirmed the organisation is well progressed in planning a major presence at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will include a national Australia House, the first of its kind since the Sydney 2000 Games.
Why it matters
The update signals Brisbane 2032’s shift from planning into delivery and implementation.
Commercial partnerships will play a central role in funding and supporting Games operations. A confirmed presence at LA28 positions Brisbane 2032 on the global stage as attention begins to move toward the 2032 Games.
The update also reassured IOC members that venue planning, governance structures and engagement with sports bodies are progressing on schedule.
Local impact
For Queensland communities, the update points to expanding procurement opportunities, increased engagement and more ways for locals to be involved.
Brisbane 2032 leaders said community engagement will grow throughout 2026, with thousands of locals and fans expected to participate as preparations continue for what has been described as the biggest event in Queensland’s history.

Mr Liveris told IOC members that Brisbane 2032 has made strong progress since its last update in March last year.
“Together with Games Delivery Partners, we’ve made significant progress since Brisbane 2032’s previous update to IOC Members in March last year,” Mr Liveris said.
He outlined several key developments, including confirmation of the Queensland Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan, venues now underway, open procurement opportunities and the announcement of the Games Vision.
Mr Liveris also highlighted strong interest from sporting organisations wanting to be part of the Games, along with governance changes.
“Our streamlined Board and recently appointed Advisory Groups are leading our transition from planning phase to implementation and delivery,” he said.
He said the update was well received by IOC members.
“Our update to IOC Members was well received and warmly acknowledged that we are on track to welcome the world in 2032 and that we are open for business, with our first partner – one of the largest companies in Australia – due to be announced in the second quarter of this year,” Mr Liveris said.
“I was also pleased to provide a glimpse into what will be a significant presence for Brisbane 2032 as part of the LA28 Games and as the global attention prepares to pivot to our Games in a little over six years.”

Ms Hook said Australia House will be a centrepiece of Brisbane 2032’s presence at the LA28 Games.
“Along with developing our unique narrative as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Closing Ceremonies at the LA28 Games, we’re excited to build Australia House and showcase a little of what the world can expect from Brisbane, Queensland and Australia in 2032,” Ms Hook said.
She confirmed the venue will be located in a well-known area of Los Angeles and will highlight Australia’s identity.

“Our House will be situated in a well-known LA location and will feature the very best of who we are, what we offer and what visitors can experience before, during and beyond our Games,” she said.
“From our incredible nature and wildlife to our rich history and culture. Our warm and welcoming people and of course, our love of sport.”
Ms Hook said further details will be shared closer to the Games.
“I look forward to revealing more details in the months ahead and have no doubt Australia House will be the place to visit and experience during the LA28 Games,” she said.
What to look for next?
Mr Liveris said 2026 will focus on refining key planning documents and expanding public engagement.
“We’ll continue to refine our Venue Master Plan and Sport Programme – ready for endorsement following confirmation of the IOC’s Fit for the Future strategy as part of an IOC Session between June and December,” he said.
He said Brisbane 2032 will also continue commercial and procurement announcements, confirm its sustainability strategy and build toward the Emblems reveal.
“Six years to go milestones for the Olympics and Paralympics will take place mid-year and our engagement across communities will increase and broaden,” Mr Liveris said.
“Our strategic direction is set and implementation is underway, with many more exciting announcements ahead!”
