The Willards Farm in Birkdale is getting a makeover. The Redland City Council’s Birkdale Community Precinct project is behind this transformation. Baroque Group, a local company, secured a $5.06 million contract for the restoration work. The homestead and outbuildings, dating back 150 years, are the focus of this project.
Mayor Karen Williams is thrilled about showcasing the farm’s unique history during the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. In 2016, the council saved this historic property from demolition, purchasing it for $1.45 million. The locals eagerly anticipate its new look.
The Birkdale Community Precinct will have exciting attractions: a lagoon, cultural centre, stage, and rafting facility. It’ll also conserve 36 hectares of land. One highlight will be the food hub at Willards Farm, where visitors can learn, taste, and cook local food.
Experts will restore two historic buildings: Willards Farm and the US Army Radio Receiving Station. Cr Paul Bishop expressed gratitude to those who saved the farm from demolition. He highlighted its status as one of Queensland’s oldest handmade settlements with a remarkable history and legacy.
