Making Waves: Redland’s Accessible Beach Program

Empowering Inclusivity at Wellington Point Recreation Reserve

Redland City Council, in tandem with Surf Life Saving Queensland, introduces the Accessible Beach Program, fostering inclusivity and access for all at Wellington Point Recreation Reserve.

Utilising specialised equipment and lifeguard supervision, this initiative offers disabled beach access, redefining the Redland Coast experience.

Breaking Barriers, Building Communities

The program, operational from September to April during lifesaving seasons, opens its doors during weekends, public holidays, and school breaks, ensuring widespread accessibility.

Carers facilitate user safety, accompanying individuals throughout their experience with the WaterWheels™ beach chair, now granting unhindered beach enjoyment.

Enabling Access and Embracing Diversity

Beyond the beach program, Wellington Point Recreation Reserve boasts amenities like accessible showers, toilets, and ample disabled parking, amplifying its allure.

This coastal gem offers breathtaking views, wheelchair-friendly paths, and a delectable menu at nearby cafes, crafting an inclusive haven.

Charting a Course for Inclusivity

Mayor Karen Williams underscores the council’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, aligning with objectives to nurture resilient communities.

Division 1 Councillor Wendy Boglary hails the program’s innovation, ensuring wheelchair users revel in the reserve’s stunning shoreline.

Beyond Boundaries, Towards Accessible Tourism

Surf Life Saving Queensland echoes this sentiment, expressing eagerness to facilitate beach access for all visitors.

This initiative aligns with the broader vision for accessible tourism, marking a pivotal step towards creating an inclusive, welcoming environment.
