South-East Queensland (SEQ) is about to witness a transformative shift in the quality of life it offers, thanks to the SEQ Liveability Fund, a cornerstone project of the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal.
Creating a Brighter Future
This ambitious initiative, a collaborative partnership between the Australian Government, the Queensland Government, and the Council of Mayors (SEQ), is set to rejuvenate the booming south-east corner of Queensland.
A $285 Million Investment for Healthier, More Vibrant Communities
At the heart of this initiative is the mission to build healthier, more liveable, and inclusive communities that connect people and promote well-being.
With over $285 million allocated, the SEQ Liveability Fund promises to bring about remarkable changes in South-East Queensland’s landscape.

A Community-Centric Approach
This investment isn’t just about erecting buildings or parks; it’s about revitalising the essence of these communities. The fund will support projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life, fostering a sense of belonging.
It will support community infrastructure that complements new housing supply or urban renewal, making communities more vibrant and self-sustaining.
Sporting and Recreational Facilities
As Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the SEQ Liveability Fund is also focused on promoting local sports. Local councils can apply for funding to develop regional sporting and recreation facilities, driving engagement in sports both in the lead-up to the games and beyond.
Economic Benefits and Opportunities for All
The fund isn’t just about improving physical landscapes. It’s a platform for local businesses, job creation, and enhancing opportunities for First Nations people. By investing in community projects, it seeks to ensure a legacy that will benefit the region for generations to come.
A Region-Shaping Legacy
With the SEQ City Deal’s investment of $1.8 billion, South-East Queensland, home to over three million residents, is set to become a model of growth and development. This collaboration between three levels of government is committed to delivering 29 essential commitments, leaving a lasting, positive impact on the region.
A Vision Transformed into Reality
The allocation of funds, determined from 2020 population data, stands as a testament to the commitment of the Australian Government, the Queensland Government, and the Council of Mayors (SEQ) to enhancing the liveability of South-East Queensland.
The SEQ Liveability Fund is not merely an investment; it’s an opportunity to create a brighter, more prosperous future for the people of South-East Queensland. As Deputy Premier Steven Miles stated, “This is our commitment to providing long-term improvements to the social, environmental, and economic viability and sustainability of SEQ communities.”
A Collaborative Triumph
In the words of Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King, “We have an opportunity to deliver a region-shaping legacy with the hosting of the Olympic Games and unlock a stronger future for communities.”
The SEQ Liveability Fund is currently open for expressions of interest from eligible local governments until November 10, 2023. With outcomes expected by the end of 2023, these projects are set to roll out in mid-2024, shaping the future of South-East Queensland.
