To gather community input, the Redland City Council encourages residents, businesses, and community groups to voice their opinions on the Queensland Government’s draft Redland Housing Strategy.
Mayor Karen Williams emphasised the significance of reviewing the proposed changes and submitting feedback to the State Government before the deadline on 12 November.
Redland City Encourages Inputs and Participation
Redland City Council is rallying community members, businesses, and local organisations to weigh in on the Queensland Government’s draft Redland Housing Strategy.
Mayor Karen Williams stressed the importance of residents comprehensively reviewing the strategy and offering feedback to the State Government.
Reasons and Plans
Mayor Williams pointed out that despite Redland City surpassing state targets, the existing Redland City Plan was deemed insufficient in providing diverse housing options. The proposed changes, outlined in 26 actions, include reducing lot sizes in low-density residential zones (as small as 200 sqm), permitting multiple dwellings and retirement facilities, and increasing maximum building heights (up to seven storeys) in medium-density residential zones.
To facilitate community engagement, the Queensland Government has scheduled three in-person information sessions on October 28, October 30, and November 2. Online sessions, where participants can interact with Queensland Government planners, are also available for booking.
Feedback and Amendments Submission
Residents are encouraged to review the amendments and submit their feedback before the November 12 deadline. Comprehensive details about the strategy, consultation activities, and related documents are accessible on the State Government’s Redland Housing Strategy project webpage.
The Council is set to deliberate its official response to the draft strategy during the General Meeting on November 15.
