The Redland City Council has adopted measures to address housing affordability. The council aims to support the delivery of more affordable and diverse housing on the Redlands Coast, despite it not being their direct responsibility.
HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
Deputy Mayor Julie Talty believes that they can still make a positive impact on addressing housing affordability. They have established an affordable housing policy that offers discounted development application fees and infrastructure charges.
A MILLION DOLLAR FUND
A funding pool of $1 million is available, with eligible projects able to receive discounts up to $250,000. The council has also endorsed a major amendment to support dual occupancy on lots of 700 m2 or greater in low-density residential zones. They will continue to advocate for a state interest review for a major amendment to the medium-density residential code review.
Additionally, the council is investigating opportunities to allow caravans and motorhomes to be used as temporary residential accommodations.
