Playground equipment at Thornlands Community Park was damaged by fire at about 2 am on Monday 11 September 2023.

A plastic slide, shade sail and climbing play equipment were all damaged. Redland City Council has closed and made safe the area of the damaged play equipment and urges park users to stay away from the area.
The remaining areas of the park remain open.

CCTV footage of the incident has been provided to the Queensland Police Service.

Redland City Council will meet with the play equipment manufacturer and shade sail contractor this week to discuss the replacement of the damaged equipment.

Vandalism disrupts the community’s use and enjoyment of facilities and comes at a significant cost to the community.

Anyone who notices acts of vandalism or arson is urged to report the incident to police, and not intervene.
