Redland City Council Seeks Input on SE Queensland Growth Plan

Redland City, Queensland – The Redland City Council is urging its community members to participate in shaping the future growth of south-east Queensland by providing their input on the Queensland Government’s draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update. The draft update is the foundation for the forthcoming South East Queensland (SEQ) regional plan, offering insights into projected population growth and the government’s vision for where this growth will occur.

Mayor Karen Williams stressed the significance of engaging residents, businesses, and community organisations in reviewing the draft and sharing their feedback with the State Government. She pointed out that the draft Update identifies new growth areas within the Redlands, anticipating a population increase that will necessitate effectively accommodating this growth.

Williams emphasised the essential role that community feedback plays in determining the city’s future development. Redland City Council is actively reviewing the draft and will present a comprehensive report during an upcoming Council meeting. This report will be the basis for the Council’s formal submission to the State Government.

One area of particular scrutiny for the Council is the State Government’s commitment to supporting potential new growth areas outside the existing urban footprint. This support includes funding and facilitating critical state infrastructure enhancements, such as road upgrades, efficient public transportation, emergency services, and educational facilities.

The Queensland Government’s public consultation on the ShapingSEQ 2023 Update will remain open until September 20, 2023. To register for the event, visit the Queensland Government website.

This initiative underscores the Council’s commitment to ensuring residents have a voice in the region’s future growth and development. Community input is essential for building a sustainable and prosperous Redlands Coast.
