Redland City, August 27, 2023 – To foster sustainable practices within the local business community, Redland City Council is gearing up to hold its first-ever Circular Economy Forum. This initiative aims to provide insight into the potential advantages and hurdles of adopting a circular economy framework.

Scheduled for Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Alexandra Hills Conference Centre, the event is set to be an informative session supported by the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce. The concept of a circular economy revolves around the extended use of materials and products, effectively minimising waste and landfill accumulation.

Mayor Karen Williams highlighted the paramount significance of recycling, reusing, and repurposing, stating, “The more we recycle, reuse and recover, the less waste needs to go to landfill.” She underscored the city’s commitment to sustainability, expressing optimism that the forum would enhance collaboration with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the wider community, aligning with the city’s strategic objectives.

Demonstrating this commitment, Mayor Williams cited instances where recycled materials were innovatively employed, such as reclaimed plastics for road resurfacing and repurposed tires in asphalt production. The forum is anticipated to offer local businesses the tools to navigate the circular economy landscape effectively, encouraging them to explore new revenue streams and minimise product obsolescence.

A keynote panel during the event will feature Dr Joan Prummel, an esteemed Circular Economy Advisor from the Dutch government. Dr. Prummel will share his expertise in catalysing and expediting circular economy practices, enriching attendees with valuable insights.

The Redlands Coast Circular Economy Forum is scheduled to run from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on September 8, 2023. Interested participants are encouraged to RSVP by September 6 through Eventbrite due to limited seating availability. This initiative underscores Redland City Council’s ambition to steer its locality towards a sustainable and thriving future.
