In a significant development for the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area (PDA) Master Plan, construction is set to begin on a new recreational boat ramp and temporary car park at Weinam Creek, Redland Bay, starting in August 2023.

As part of the ongoing rejuvenation of Marina Redland Bay, the new boat ramp will offer improved access and modern facilities for recreational boaties, separate from emergency services. This relocation of recreational vessels to the southern side of Weinam Creek will also free up the existing boat ramp for exclusive use by emergency service vessels, leading to enhanced response times for Southern Moreton Bay Island (SMBI) residents.

The ambitious project, overseen by Redland Investment Corporation (RIC) on behalf of Redland City Council, aims to deliver various new services and amenities outlined in the PDA. The upcoming Marina Redland Bay will offer more car parks for SMBI commuters, travel and transport upgrades to mitigate traffic congestion, an activated foreshore with increased open space and family-friendly areas, and retail and cafe facilities.

Simultaneously, work will commence on a temporary car park on Banana Street, boasting 141 spaces conveniently located near the ferry terminal. The temporary car park will serve as critical commuter parking during the next stage of development, providing relief for the community during the construction process.

While preserving the environment is a priority, the construction necessitates the removal of established street landscaping and trees. Independent Ecologist BAAM confirmed that no koalas are present in the affected area. Redland City Council has committed to planting three additional trees for every mature gum tree removed from Banana Street, contributing to the beautification of Sel Outridge and Neville Stafford parks.

Only 45 of the planned 90 boat trailer parks will be available at the Moores Road car park to accommodate commuter parking needs during construction. The remaining spaces are expected to be converted once a planned multi-level car park is completed in a future stage of development.

The construction of the new recreational boat ramp at the end of the Moores Road car park is scheduled for completion by December 2023, subject to weather conditions. In the interim, boaties are encouraged to consider using alternative ramps at Colburn Avenue, Redland Bay, and William Street, Cleveland.

The collaborative efforts of RIC and the Redland City Council aim to minimise inconvenience and disruption throughout this significant redevelopment, ensuring the community’s needs are addressed and supported. The project’s progress will be monitored closely, and residents will be thanked for their patience and continued support during construction.
