What’s Happening?
Redlands Coast families can choose from performances, wildlife encounters and creative workshops during the September school holidays. Activities for children of all ages are planned at Redland Performing Arts Centre, council libraries and Redland Art Gallery. Redlands IndigiScapes Centre will also host nature activities and outdoor games.
Why It Matters?
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the events would cater to a wide range of interests. “Council venues will be a hive of activity, more so than usual, during the school holiday period from 19 September to 5 October,” Cr Talty said.
“RPAC is packed with interactive adventures for young families through to a breathtaking circus for older children. Children interested in nature can visit IndigiScapes to build a frog or bee hotel, join an interactive wildlife show or join a scavenger hunt.”
Local Impact
Library sessions include a Harry Potter afternoon, Bluey and Bingo mornings and Wings of Fire-themed programs. Creative options range from collage portraits and Friday craft craze sessions to colourful string-and-foil designs and clay creations.
At IndigiScapes, children can make robotic wildlife headbands from cardboard and join a nature detective challenge. The scavenger hunt involves solving clues and learning about local wildlife. The centre also offers the Geckoes Wildlife experience and Wildlife Unleashed, an interactive wildlife show.
Backyard Play includes tandem walkers, wobble boards, a balance beam and ring toss. Pavement games, juggling sticks, ball games and quoits round out the activities.

At Redland Performing Arts Centre, The Box Show reveals the musical possibilities of everyday objects through a playful, inventive performance. Meanwhile, The Bubble Spectacular features giant bubbles, striking effects and magical moments.
In the immersive comedy Finnegan the Fart Detective, Detective Finnegan hunts for the culprit behind a mysterious smell. The story is brought to life through 3D sound and live sound effects.
Junkyard Beats’ free drop-in Sound Garden turns the centre into a space for hands-on music, rhythm and creativity. Circa’s internationally acclaimed WOLF combines contemporary circus, acrobatics and physical theatre. At The Mezz, Explore & Draw – Visualising the Written Word lets visitors examine artworks one clue at a time.
At Redland Art Gallery, beach plastic is used to create mosaics with Amber Vicum in Sea Plastics Mosaics. Meanwhile, Lines of Memory explores contour line drawing inspired by plants with artist Nicole Crosswell. The free drop-in Cast Your Line Drawing Game invites participants to spin the wheel, follow the prompt and draw.

“The libraries are offering exclusive teen activities, as well as Bluey and Harry Potter-themed events, and arts and craft,” Cr Talty said. “The creative theme continues at Redland Art Gallery with workshops on creating mosaics and line drawing.”
