What’s Happening?
Ramsay Health Care will open Ramsay Surgical Centre Cleveland at 19-21 Middle Street on 17 August. The purpose-built day hospital will provide specialist surgical care for Redlands and Brisbane bayside patients.
The centre was established in response to growing healthcare demand across the area. It will also introduce artificial intelligence-enabled endoscopy technology to the Redlands for the first time.
Why It Matters
The new centre will bring a wider range of specialist services closer to local patients. As a result, fewer people will need to travel into Brisbane for consultations, procedures and follow-up care.
Specialists who also practise at Greenslopes Private Hospital will consult and operate in Cleveland. Their involvement brings experience from one of Queensland’s leading private hospitals directly into the Redlands community.
Local Impact
Patients will have local access to endoscopy, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, urology, gynaecology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. Onsite pathology, radiology and a general practice clinic will also support patients at the same location.
Ramsay Surgical Centre Cleveland Chief Executive Officer Justin Greenwell said the new facility would help local specialists care for more patients.
“Ramsay Surgical Centre Cleveland will support local specialists to care for more patients in a modern purpose-built facility, making it easier for people to access high-quality surgical care without leaving their local community,” Mr Greenwell said.
By the Numbers
- The new purpose-built day hospital represents a $16 million healthcare project for Cleveland and the wider Redlands community.
- The centre will open with three operating theatres, while its design allows a fourth theatre to be added in the future.
- An initial group of more than 25 Greenslopes Private Hospital specialists will consult and operate at the Cleveland centre.

The centre’s Olympus EVIS X1 system uses artificial intelligence to help specialists detect lesions during endoscopy procedures. Meanwhile, its Mindray anaesthesia machines will provide next-generation monitoring and support during surgery.
“We’re proud to be bringing not only more surgical services to the Redlands, but also some of the latest technology available,” Mr Greenwell said. “By investing in AI technology and next-generation equipment, we’re ensuring local patients can access the same advanced care available at major metropolitan hospitals, without needing to travel into Brisbane,” he said.

The opening expands Ramsay Health Care’s hospital network across Queensland and supports its focus on providing care closer to local communities. Ramsay is Australia’s largest private hospital operator, with about 70 hospitals and day surgeries nationwide.

What To Look For Next?
Following the 17 August opening, Redlands patients will have another local option for specialist day surgery. The planned fourth theatre capacity could also support more procedures as community demand grows.
