What’s happening?
A Victoria Point dad is planning more family time after landing a $193,534.80 lottery prize in draw 604 on Monday, 20 April 2026.
The Redland City man bought the winning entry at River Road Tavern, 39-49 Logan River Road, Beenleigh, after stopping there on his way home from work.
He said the surprise win still feels unreal.
“The news still hasn’t sunk in!” he laughed.
“It’s the most amount of money I’ve ever won.
“I was working around Beenleigh, and I decided to stop into the local tavern on my way home. I put a game on, and I never expected to win anything.”
The dad said the money could go towards a backyard pool, a better boat, and possibly even a caravan.
Why it matters
For one Redlands family, a routine stop after work turned into a life-changing night.
The prize has opened the door to plans they had only talked about before, especially ideas centred on family time.
The winner said he waited until his wife and children got home before sharing the news.
“I headed home right away but had to wait until my wife and kids returned from being out so I could share the good news with them.
“They got back late that night, and since it was a school night, there wasn’t much chance for celebrating. Just a quick dinner and straight to bed.”
Local Impact
The story will strike a chord with many Redlands families. It centres on everyday life, work, school nights, and hopes for more time together.
The Victoria Point dad said his family quickly started thinking about what the prize could mean at home.
“My wife was over the moon with the news though, she’s already listing things we could buy!
“She has always wanted to put in a pool for the kids, and I have been tossing up whether to upgrade the boat or not. We currently just have a small tinnie.”
By the numbers
- Across the eastern states of mainland Australia, players celebrated more than 78 million wins in 2025, worth more than $1.2 billion in total.
- During the same year, 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires shared more than $40.8 million, including three major winners from Queensland.
- Queensland alone recorded more than 28 million wins in 2025, with total prizes reaching more than $466.5 million, while a Biggera Waters man took home $4.4 million.
Zoom In
The most striking part of the story is how ordinary the night was.
The dad had never been to the Beenleigh tavern before. He simply stopped in after work, bought an entry, and headed home.
There was no big party when the family found out.
Instead, he said it was a quick dinner and bed because the children had school the next day.
That made the news feel even more grounded and more personal.
Zoom Out
Big lottery wins always draw attention, but this one stands out because of how clearly the family already knows what matters.
This was not about flashy spending. It was about a pool for the kids, a possible boat upgrade, and maybe more trips together.
“We could even get a caravan and go for some adventures.
“Thank you very much! I’m so excited.”
What To Look For Next?
For now, the family has a few happy decisions ahead.
A backyard pool, a better boat, and even a caravan are all now within reach after one unexpected stop in Beenleigh.
