What’s happening?

A new local business, The Golf Nest, is opening on Sunday, November 2 on Shore Street in Cleveland, next to BCF and Stepz Fitness. It is a family-owned indoor golf simulator and bar created and operated by the Barney family. Peter and Janine Barney are both long-time PGA Professionals, joined by their son Nicholas, who is also a PGA Professional, and daughter-in-law Miranda. Other family members, Stef and Josh Frew, are also involved in bringing the dream to life.

The opening day will feature a community celebration with a live DJ, a BBQ hosted by the Rotary Club of Cleveland, a long drive competition, and free simulator sessions so visitors can try the technology for themselves.

Why it matters

With over 40 years of experience in golf between Janine and Nick, the family wanted to combine their love of the game with their passion for hospitality. “We have always believed golf should be fun and accessible for everyone, so we set out to create a space that welcomes new players, families, and seasoned golfers alike.”

The Golf Nest brings something new to the Redlands Coast with inclusivity in golf, memberships, PGA coaching, social leagues, corporate and community events in a relaxed indoor setting. The family is also proud to have created the possibility of new local jobs as they expand.

By the Number

• The Golf Nest includes four simulator bays, offering realistic play, lessons, and competitions.

• The idea took just six months from concept to opening after Nick first pitched it to the family.

Janine and Nick’s forty years of combined golf experience shaped the vision and coaching philosophy behind The Golf Nest.

Zoom In

The Golf Nest features four cutting-edge simulator bays, a relaxed bar and lounge area, and large TV screens perfect for sports and movie nights. It is a warm and welcoming environment where people can play, learn, and connect, no matter their level of experience. Nick first came up with the idea about six months ago. Once he pitched it to the family, they were all in on the plan to make it happen.

Zoom Out

The Golf Nest is the only indoor golf simulator in Cleveland. The family-run approach gives the space a friendly and inclusive feel.

“Golf can sometimes be intimidating for newcomers, but The Golf Nest is designed to be the opposite. It is a fun, relaxed environment where anyone can learn, play, and enjoy.”

Local Impact

Cleveland already has great golf courses and a driving range, but there was no place for locals to practice or play year-round. The Golf Nest fills that gap by offering something active, social, and community-driven.

“Cleveland already has great golf courses and a driving range, but there was no place for locals to practice or play year-round,” Nicholas said. “The Golf Nest fills that gap by offering something active, social, and community-driven. It is a place where people can enjoy time together, whether that is over a lesson, a round with friends, or a drink at the bar.”
