What’s happening?

From July 1 to 4, students from Redland City will join more than 340 of Queensland’s brightest Year 11 and 12 students at QUT’s Future You Summit, a transformative university experience held at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove.

Ahead of the summit, participants arrive on 30 June to settle into boarding accommodation at Somerville House. The week includes collaborative workshops, industry networking, and university mentorship sessions tailored to each student’s academic interests.

Why it matters

The summit is QUT’s flagship youth engagement program, giving students an invaluable head start in defining their post-school pathways and career ambitions.

“This is the 13th year of the QUT Future You Summit,” said Professor Rowena Barrett. “It gives high school students the opportunity to expand their skill sets beyond the classroom, explore future career ambitions with like-minded peers, and experience the QUT community.”

Local Impact

Redland City is part of the Brisbane and surrounds region, which boasts the largest group at the summit with 205 students—including those from Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Moreton Bay.

QUT’s investment in local youth ensures that even students from suburban and peri-urban areas benefit from advanced university outreach.

By the Numbers

  • 205 students from Brisbane and surrounding LGAs, including Redland City

  • 341 students from 165 schools overall

  • 69% of participants are female

  • 105 of QUT’s 2025 first-years previously attended this summit

The summit covers everything from cybersecurity to climate science and animation. Students will also receive Inspired Success by Rashan Senanayake, which they’ll use as a reflective tool.

Zoom Out

The Future You Summit is one of QUT’s major education pipeline programs and has a proven record of encouraging enrolment from underrepresented groups.

What to Look For Next?

Redland students often return to QUT. “It really does give them a chance to see their future and get a head start,” said Professor Barrett.
