First look at ground-breaking new facility Logan Economic Hub

Logan Econmic Hub

What’s Happening?

The Logan Economic Hub, a new community facility in Logan Central, is under development to provide employment-focused services for job seekers. This project is a partnership between the Queensland Government and not-for-profit organisation Settlement Services International (SSI).

Once completed in 2026, the Hub will deliver various programs including job readiness training, social enterprise support, and community connection initiatives to aid Logan residents in achieving sustainable employment.

Why It Matters

The Hub is tailored to the needs of Logan’s diverse population, including women, young graduates, parents returning to the workforce, and professionals with international qualifications.

As SSI CEO Violet Roumeliotis stated, “This project will help to level the playing field for job seekers and equip them with the skills and support they need to flourish.” She added, “Delivering quality place-based services with the local community is the best way to ensure Queenslanders have the support they need to build brighter futures and harness their untapped potential.”

Local Impact

The Hub will provide essential resources for Logan’s culturally diverse communities, offering language support and services that address the unique challenges of the area.

Burundian community leader Elihuti Niyomungere, who helped organise community discussions, highlighted its importance:

“The Logan Economic Hub will be an important place for locals who are struggling with their English language to get support to access services and further their goals. This is especially important for youth who are struggling with their mental and physical health, as the centre will be a place where they can talk to people who understand.”

By the Numbers:

  • $6.756 million in funding has been committed by the Queensland Government.
  • $7.8 million co-invested by SSI, including financial and in-kind resources.
  • 13 projects: The Logan Economic Hub is one of 13 projects funded by Queensland’s $15 million Community Infrastructure Investment Partnership (CIIP) program aimed at COVID-19 economic recovery.

Zoom In

SSI’s Logan Economic Hub will offer programs that address pressing issues identified during community consultations with local leaders, youth, employers, and service providers.

These discussions aimed to shape the Hub’s approach to meet local needs effectively.

Zoom Out

The Hub is part of a statewide initiative under Queensland’s CIIP program, which funds infrastructure projects to support economic recovery and community resilience post-COVID-19.

The CIIP grants support non-profits in building facilities to meet growing local needs, emphasising inclusive, community-driven recovery efforts.

What to Look For Next?

Pending approvals, construction is expected to be completed by 2026.

In the interim, SSI and the Queensland Government will continue to engage the community to finalise program offerings, ensuring the Hub serves Logan’s most in-need populations.
