What’s happening?

A man from Thornlands has won $1 million after holding the only division one winning entry nationally in draw 4653, drawn on Monday, 19 January 2026.

The Redland resident checked his ticket around 9.30 pm and quickly realised he had secured the life-changing prize.

His winning 50-game QuickPick entry was purchased through an official online lottery app.

This is the first major lottery win recorded in the Redlands region this year.

Why it matters

The win gives the couple the chance to buy their first home, something they had not yet been able to do.

The winner said the prize would make a real difference for him and his wife.

“Thank you so much! I can’t believe it!” he said.

“I’m feeling very grateful. This will go a long way for us!”

“I logged in around 9.30 last night to check the ticket, and we were absolutely stunned.”

Local impact

The result places the Redlands Coast on the national lottery map for 2026, with the only division one entry sold in Queensland.

The winner said he had never expected to secure a top prize.

“I’ve only ever received a small win here and there,” he said.

“Sometimes you wonder whether to get another entry for next week. I never truly anticipated winning Division One!”

Home ownership is now the couple’s clear priority.

“We don’t own a house, so that’s the first thing we’ll be doing with the prize. It’s great,” the winner said.

They plan a simple celebration before taking the next step.

“We will be having a nice dinner to celebrate!”

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Zoom out

During 2025, more than 121.6 million winners shared over $3.93 billion in prize money across lottery games nationwide.

In the last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.66 billion through state lottery taxes and donations to support hospitals, health research, disaster relief, and education.

These funds also supported more than 500 community causes across the country.

What to look for next?

With the celebration plans set, the couple will now turn their focus to buying their first home, a goal that is finally within reach.
